The story behind the room
While Pendley Manor’s history dates back to the Norman Conquest 1066, this room is named after the owner of Pendley in the late 15thCentury. John Verney, son of Lord Mayor of London Sir Ralph de Verney, married Margaret Whittingham, the daughter of the the owner of Pendley Manor. Because of King Edward IV’s favour for Verney, he passed the land to the Verney family and the family lived at the medieval manor for the next 150 years.
